JB Kripalani was born on 11 November 1888 in Sindh, Hyderabad, to a Hindu upper middle class family. The full name of JB Kripalani was Jivatram Bhagwandas Kripalani.

His father's name was Kaka Bhagwandas. His father was a revenue and judicial officer in a government department. JB Kripalani had a total of eight siblings, he was the sixth child of his parents.
